Help Guide the Land Bank/Homesteading Authority Strategic Plan

What Is the Land Bank?

The Land Bank and Kansas City, Missouri, Homesteading Authority (KCMHA) help return vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties to productive use by making them available for purchase by individuals, nonprofits, and businesses.

These properties include lots and buildings that were not sold at Jackson County's annual tax sale or were otherwise distressed. Learn more about the Land Bank and KCMHA on the City's website.

Why the Land Bank Matters

Vacant and underused properties affect entire neighborhoods by impacting safety, housing options, economic opportunity, and quality of life. We address these concerns by:

  • Listening to residents to understand local priorities
  • Working to preserve existing neighborhood character
  • Partnering with stakeholders who actively help neighborhoods thrive

How You Can Be Involved

We're updating our strategic plan and want to hear directly from residents, neighborhood organizations, and other stakeholders.

As we move forward, we'll be hosting a series of public information sessions, in person and online, to both explain how the Land Bank and KCMHA work and gather feedback on how we can better serve the community. We'll also invite you to participate in surveys and other engagement opportunities along the way.

We'll continue to post updates and upcoming events on this page so you can stay informed and take part when it works for you.

Please take a moment to fill out the below survey, which is your chance to provide input on how we maintain, sell, and redevelop properties in our inventory.
