Prospect/Hickman Mills Corridor Plan

This is a community-focused process. That means we need your input!

Follow along as we progress through each phase of this plan, participate in public events and engagement opportunities.

What is the goal of the Prospect/Hickman Mills Corridor Plan?

The plan aims to improve transportation, economic opportunities, and the overall character of Prospect Avenue and Hickman Hills Road while ensuring that future growth benefits the existing community.

How is this project different from past planning efforts?

This plan builds on the PROSPECTUS study and other past investments, but it focuses specifically on the southern part of the corridor that was not previously studied in depth. It will also focus on community-guided solutions, ensuring that local voices shape the outcome.

How will this plan impact local businesses and property owners?

The plan aims to support businesses by making the corridor more attractive, accessible, and economically viable. Recommendations may include zoning changes, incentives for new businesses, and infrastructure improvements that make it easier for people to visit and shop locally.

Who is leading this project?

The City of Kansas City, Missouri, in collaboration with Marlborough community leadership, is guiding the planning process. A planning consultant team led by Wilson & Company has been contracted to provide planning analysis, community engagement, and final recommendations.

Will this plan result in immediate changes?

The plan will provide a long-term vision with phased implementation. Some recommendations may be implemented quickly, while others will take time and additional funding to complete.

How can I get involved?

You can attend community meetings and in-person events, participate in surveys, provide feedback online, and stay up to date on the project website. There will be Pop-ups in June, August, and October, Public Workshops in July and October, and other events in the Corridor throughout the Summer and Fall of 2025.

Building on the PROSPECTUS Initiative

This plan is an extension of the PROSPECTUS planning effort, which focused on the Prospect MAX Bus Route and transit-oriented development (TOD). That effort aimed to revitalize the corridor by promoting mixed-use development near transit stops.

The Prospect/Hickman Mills Corridor Plan will build on that work, focusing on the areas beyond the transit line’s terminus.
