How Can We Make Kansas City a Better Place to Grow Older?

The City is working towards developing better support systems for older adults —whether in transportation, housing, health, or safety — and we need your help to do it.

We know that good programs and services begin with listening to the people who are most impacted by them, so before we start identifying priorities and solutions, we want to hear about what matters most to our older adults.

In August, September, and October, the Equity Office will be holding a series of listening sessions throughout the city where we'll have an open conversation about what works, what doesn't, and what you'd like to see more of.

There are two ways to participate:

Holly Harris5 days ago Since many young people are using electric scooters and electric bikes, I think it would be nice to legally drive an electric golf cart within my neighborhood streets (35 mph or less) to go to grocery store, pharmacy, and bank. It would cut down on greenhouse emissions. L D McClelland2 weeks ago Please stop using Roundup to deter the houseless. Didn't you know that Roundup is poisonous? Yes. Our family is dealing with cancer, and the last thing we need is to try, and walk in our neighborhoods and see all the brown brush from Roundup. We also think the City should be ashamed of how you are cutting down trees and brush to prevent the houseless from having a safe place from the elements. Stop. Use that money to house someone. Use that money to offer work to the houseless. Use that money to get mental health care for the houseless. Use that money to help, and not to destroy. It's shameful.

Patricia Jaime3 weeks ago At city owned venues and in permitting restaurants ask for non bar size and none high table size seating. Many places do this with the high tables and bar style seats. Elders like to go out but it’s hard for some of us to climb up in those seats and be comfortable. And if injured it’s really hard. I have passed on going to some places cuz of this high table seating only and I wound up not spending money at that place of business or went to the suburbs of neighboring state because they had better seating.
